Notes
- check mast butt position on boat 12
- All covers should be labeled. Make sure they stay with their boats
- Chasing the easterly again. NO MEETING before practice: head right out as soon as you are ready and warm up on your own near the marina and when we get enough boats we will warm up together upwind toward the east.
Practice 1
- start-stop boat handling. Think about weight trim/balance/acceleration and what is legal to do and what is not. Ease-heel to leeward-trim-hike
- Start-top drills will reset with a leeward-most boat rabbit start.
- Practice starts will be part of today as well.
- Downwind we will continue to work on aggressive gybing and crisp wing on-off.
Practice 2
- sail trim. There are important and crucial differences between downspeed and accelerated sail trim. Work with your partner on what those are today.
- sail trim downwind is critical. Learn how/where to hold the jib sheet on wing on (skipper) and wing off (crew) so that is is most powerful and projects the most area. During gybes, try to have the jib not luff at all.

FRIDAY
Friday is International Pardon Day
Pardon Day is celebrated every year on September 8 to encourage people to put aside their grudges, seek forgiveness, and forgive those who may have hurt them. While people commonly use the term pardon as a synonym for forgiveness, the term originally referred to an official or legal action that released a convict from the punishment of a crime. In a legal context, the head of state, government, or religious entity usually grants a pardon.
Pardon Day dates back to September 8, 1974, when President Gerald Ford presented a controversial pardon to ex-president Richard M. Nixon after being implicated in one of the United States’ most scandalous events, the Watergate affair. Nevertheless, Nixon was remorseful for committing wrong-doings against the nation and its people, and President Gerald pardoned him. The day may have a controversial origin, but it reminds us of the significance of forgiveness.
How To Celebrate Pardon Day
If you think you have wronged someone, this day is a perfect opportunity to tell them you are sorry. You can find a nice way to express your remorse, such as writing a note or inviting them for coffee. If someone apologizes for hurting you, be gracious and forgive them. Also, spread the word on social media about #PardonDay
