Tom Sitzmann
A lifelong sailor, Tom Sitzmann brings a broad range of sailing experience to Severn School. Tom has a great deal of one-design and PHRF racing experience, competing successfully in the Laser, J/24, and J/22, winning several regional and district championships in those classes, both in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. He now sails a 505 occasionally to keep himself in dinghy sailing shape.
Tom began his youth coaching career in Maine, and his first head sailing coach appointment was at Belmont Hill School, in Massachusetts. Also a lifelong educator, Tom taught prep school history in Virginia, and later taught Naval history at the US Naval Academy. Tom has also coached sailing and directed sailing programs from Maine to Annapolis, and assisted both the Tufts and Dartmouth Sailing Teams, was an assistant offshore & dinghy coach at the USNA, head intercollegiate coach at Bowdoin College, and now at Severn School, where he guided the team to a National championship, the first and only Chesapeake Bay school ever to win the prestigious Mallory Trophy.
