I will be a little late to practice today. Please rig up and head out. I will follow shortly. Extras head out in the whaler. I will start both boats so wait for me.
Also, could you please take that 420 (gently) off of the trailer that’s near our shed, and put it on the dolly resting nearby? We have a couple 8th graders that might go out for a sail.
Today, and this week (except for Race Day) will focus on team racing. Please remember to consult, read, and LEARN our team race playbook.
1. Get out as quick as you can and practice slowing down/ starting up. Do that downwind too. Work on your mark-trap boathandling especially at marks 1 and 3 as you wait for practice to begin. How long can you hover around these marks?
2. Pig in middle to finish, random (and changing) pairs with entire team. Actively seek new partners and set it up. Don’t necessarily wait for me to start you. Round leeward mark, following leader, to starboard, then race to finish line. Pig tries to finish 1st or 2nd. Please work on passback timing, execution, and also RESPECT RULES. If there is a foul, adjudicate it. In many ways this is one of the few drills you need to do to become a good team racer. If you allow yourself to understand what boat handling is required in this drill, you will improve dramatically. WORK TOGETHER in the boats.
3. Pig in middle back downwind. Same deal, racing to mark 3.
