GEAR SHIFTING
Today’s wind forecast has unfortunately descended a bit and it looks like it could be quite unstable. If so, we will do simple line-ups and work on some of the things below. If our Magic-Easterly comes in, we will set up a starting line and do a few more things.
Practice 1: weight trim in the light air (if it’s light air today). Think about getting low, inboard, and move without shocking the boat. In the z420 weight trim is unique and can be critical.
Rolling up and downwind must allow you to flatten -> accelerate, not just flatten.
Practice 2: Critical Jib trim at start and when down-speed, and understanding how wind strength changes (puff and lulls) can affect upwind heading angles and also jib trim. Teams better
Mainsails must go through different trim angles as you sail in puff/lulls
Make sure Vang tension is set appropriately….
