Practice Wednesday 4-29-2026

NOTES

  • No Practice on Friday

PRACTICE – the art of game-day execution

  • Today we will operate with the knowledge that judges are watching, ready to call fouls.
  • We will attempt some practice starts with an anchored committee boat. It will be important to work on fleet race start management and how your start (depending on how good it is) translates into your first beat strategy. Remember a part of your starting strategy involves avoidance.
    • Work hard to find the line, and work hard not to be over early.
    • Bail out early in a loser.
    • If you foul, you will be flagged.
  • Mark Rounding practice. We will have crowded upwind and down wind gate mark roundings.
    • Mark roundings will be judged and flagged for penalties. If you commit 2 penalties without spinning, you’re out (sail in).
    • We will video where possible.
    • This will place a premium on sailing fair and setting up your conservative, rule-abiding rounding.
    • If 2 boats hit each other, at least one of them will complete a 720, or both boats go in.
