Team Race Day
Starting lineups below. We will also try a few light air combos on Red. Abbie and Caroline M (if she’s here today) will go in. We will also have Caroline B. crew in boat 2 when we do boat handling at the end.
Plan:
-Starting strategy. Talk with your team about what you want to do at the start. We will do 3-4 practice starts.
-Upwind. While we focus on fleet racing upwind, you also must focus on clear air, and if you are in a losing combo on the first beat, think hard about how you are doing relative to the “fleet” and make sure you are doing whatever you can to get to the first mark as quickly as possible. Any time you disrupt an opponents fleet race mentality, you’re doing the right thing. For example, tack aggressively on an opponent that tacks on a header, or tacks to the lifted tack. Send them the wrong was as often as possible.
-Downwind to mark 3. Work on team communication and positioning. Remember that when winning we can still fleet race as much as humanly possible.
-Final Beat cover schemes: We will round RED in 2,3,6 combo around mark 4, and RED in a 2,4,5 combo. RED needs to figure out what to do in these combos on the final beat.
