BEAT YOUR GUY DAY: Focus: Match Racing —> Team Racing & Match Racing -> during a Fleet Race
In team racing, sometimes it comes down to three individual match races. If you beat your guy, you are doing your job. Having an advantage off the starting line is a vastly important thing in team racing where the wind and courses are steady. If you win the start, you win the game. Also, as we get into more competitive events, you will find that teams losing to you may come after you before the start. There are a few rules of thumb for this situation, and today will be a day to practice that.
We will warm up just a bit, and then do a series of fleet race practice starts, where one boat will hunt another…. this is a match race within a fleet race. We will also pair off and do a few match race starts & first beats, see pairs below.
